Oliver
Cross is fourteen years old and lives in New Inn, Pontypool
Torfaen, S. Wales. He is currently a pupil at St Albans
School, Pontypool.
He started his Martial Arts training sparring with his
older sister aged just two. She was at this time learning
some basic Martial Arts skills at a local Taekwondo
class. At home, they would kick and punch then end up
grappling around on the floor.
He
then was allowed to accompanying his sister to Taekwondo
classes at the tender age of just four. From there he
moved on to Judo, and then in 1999 he began studying
Kung Fu.This he feels has given him confidence.
He
achieved his Black Sash Grade in 2006. After studying
three times every week for seven years. He still religiously
trains a minimum of three times a week. He loves Kung
Fu and feels that though he joined the Senior Class
aged just thirteen, he is getting stronger and better
at every class. I know his fellow students agree to
this, as though only fourteen, he is getting to be quite
a handful for the other Instructors, as they find it
difficult to 'lay a glove on him' when sparring. This
is possibly what he enjoys most - sparring, but loves
groundwork also.
He
likes most things about Kung Fu, and has been Junior
British Champion on three occasions, he still holds
the title. Two years ago he was honoured by winning
the 'Matthew Kellett Award for 'Best Male Fighter' at
the British Championships.
Oliver
recently accompanied the British Team to Neu Ulm in
Germany to compete in the European Championships.
Olivers
other interests are golf and football. He plays for
a local club and at 6' 3" is a dominant 'centre
back'. He is a keen Liverpool supporter.
His
ambitions are to study law, and become a barrister.
Olivers
words of wisdom are
"
Practice makes master" and "Nothing is perfect".
